Everyday is precious for 6 year old Jayden Pretorius. Last year Jayden was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an extremely aggressive form of cancer. The cancer forms a solid mass in the adrenal gland. Close to 50% of patients are younger than 2 years. Jayden’s parents Moira and Danny, were told that Jayden only had a 5% chance of survival. Doctor’s discovered that his cancer is at stage four, which is when the tumour starts to spread through the entire body. “ The Doctor told us to take him home for the weekend, “ says teary Moira. Despite this gloomy predictions, Jayden has lived with his illness for more than a year. Every night Jayden recites Psalm 23 before he goes to bed. Moira believes it has become his mantra of faith. Danny says he is amazed at the bravery Jayden shows. “ His spirit keeps us positive and encourages us to carry on “, he says.
The family is taking it one day at a time and thanks God for everyday they spend together. “ Everything happens for a reason” , Jayden has come into contact with so many people through this and all of them have been touched. Jayden has never been to Cape Town or had the experience of seeing the ocean and the whales in Hermanus. With the help from various businesses. Jayden and his parents arrived in Cape Town on the 8th of September 2007 and he was Sing For Africa’s special guest for the week. People were so touched by his story, from the day Jayden arrived his dreams and much more came true. Sadly after returning home , Jayden became very ill and had to be hospitilised again and again. Sadly Jayden passed away on the 15th of November 2008, the thought of Jayden being with God, gave his parents the peace they needed to deal with his death.
