It is hard to say thank you to all those who opened their hearts and helped
us to make this very special women's camp such a huge success. It is special
because it is the 7th annual women's camp and also the 7th year that Sing for
Africa has been operating in various areas around the Western Cape.
The number 7 is also God's PERFECT number.
Once again Intercape stepped upand sponsored the transport for the ladies from their
homes to the Manyano Centre in Paarl and back home again. thank you Intercape
for your continued support and professionalism of your staff.
Over the last few months we have received donations of various toiletries with which
we made up a gift bag for each lady. We were also able to give each lady a book, kindly donated by Angus
Buchan, called the Seed Sower, to help enrich and maintain their spiritual well being.
As a final surprise we managed to present them each with a beautiful piece of jewellery
from a generous sponsor and a beautiful purse. One of our regular supporters, Andre
Warrington, sponsored us biscuits, rice, sugar and tea. We would like to thank Eric for
the donation of chicken and Jaco from KLL for the generous donation of pies which went
towards the meals that were prepared so lovingly and beautifully by the staff at Manyano.
A lot of planning and hard work went into the organizing of the camp. Sing for Africa
would like to thank the Managers and Staff of Manyano Centre for their support and assistance
with the planning of the camp. They went out of their way to make each and every lady who
attended the camp feel welcome, beautiful and special. Their programs where well organized,
wholeheartedly thought out and a lot of fun. Ruth and Tony from Manyano made sure that no one
was left out and they took special care to make sure there were no injuries or accidents. Many of
the ladies partook in the "wall climbing" activity and even received certificates of accomplishment
for their efforts, even if they only managed to get the harness on.
Ruth and Tony played various games and activities which included wall climbing,
electric fence, an obstacle course, tower building, ship wreck, gutter ball and puzzle pieces.
A huge thank you also goes to Elize and Liz for their willing to come through to Paarl to present
skills development classes to the women.
Elize presented a class on Crocheting and incorporating beads into the design, making the most beautiful
necklaces which they could then sell to earn an extra income and thereby become women@work.
Thank you also to Lorraine and helene for their generous donation of beads for this workshop.
Liz presented the ladies with a life skills class on the procedures and skills to deal with abuse, both
of women and children. She also gave them the correct contact numbers to call in the event that they
may face such an emergency. It is always important for those facing such a crisis to know the correct
procedure and also how to deal with a person who has been raped or abused. The first few hours after
such an event is critical and the way in which the abused person is treated determines the long term
pshycological damage that is done. Once again thank you to every one who were so lovingly dedicated
to helping make this camp so successful. We all know however that without God none of this would
have been possible and we praise him for every blessing and opportunity that he afforded us during
the camp and over the last 7 years.
